No one can tell for sure when this story began. Who was the first to savor the richness of wine from the Georgian vineyards and feel its essence stir within? Though the exact beginning remains unknown, let us share a part of our journey that led us to the brand "Avandi" and our commitment to the craft of winemaking.
Our story starts in Kardenakhi, a village nestled in the Gurjaani municipality . It's a place familiar to some, yet unknown to many. It's no surprise that after tasting good wine, a Georgian man reflects not just on the vineyard, but on love, friendship, sacrifice, and homeland pride. We, too, hail from Kardenakhi, inspired by the sweetness of Georgian life, and our love for wine has deep roots.
If we believe chronology, not long after this story, after weeks, years or millennia, Baron de Bay traveled to the mentioned Gurjaani and Kardenakhi, was fascinated by the wine-making technique, studied it well, and even made notes about it. If the passage of time is told about a vineyard that has been pruned a thousand times by the hands of an enemy or a neighbor, and the fact that the machine of history sometimes turns like that, we will also miss out on very important knowledge for us.
These tales led us to the name of our wine, "Avandi," an ancient Georgian term reflecting tradition. Our wine is a tribute to the methods we discovered, passed down through generations. With pride and respect, we carry the name "Avandi" forward.
Production
Our winery's history begins in the 19th century, and it held the title of the largest winery in the Caucasus region as early as 1970. In 2016-2017, a new chapter began in our history when our facility was re-equipped with the latest technology from the Italian brand Della Toffola, setting new goals. We aim to establish Georgian wine standards and expand not only in Georgia but also in the markets of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and China.
